Internship @ SMM Pte Ltd - Surbana Jurong (Work Experience)

This segment will share the work responsibilities of the intern that was assigned to SMM Pte Ltd - Surbana Jurong for a 22-week period.


The training programme included the operations and functions of Business Strategy & Development (BD) team of SMM. Displaying how SMM manages its clients’ buildings with their own in-house Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) model instead of the conventional managing agent model. Additionally, being given an opportunity to be exposed to different aspects of project management.


Task Assigned:

1. Approach to Site Visit*

Assisted the company to conduct a site visit with regard to mechanical and electrical work (M&E), so access and survey the systems to know it is functioning or malfunctioning, via probing of questions, observation and taking down notes of key requirements that the client needs or wants.

2. Drafting out tender proposal*

3. Creation of Sustainability Guidelines*

The sustainability guideline done by the intern serves as a marketing tool for clients and to demonstrate SMM’s commitment to good environmental, social, ethical, and safety practices. This is with conjunction with ISO 14001, to ensure that the company is certified and qualified to carry out this project. It is intended as a tool to help both the company and its clients to help, inspire and integrate sustainable practices within an organisation’s operations and events

4. Forging Power Point Slides for tender interview

The PowerPoint deck that is used to present must be informative, distinct, pleasant and professional, as the clients tend to desire to clear their clarifications within the presentation itself.

6. Other minor administrative works

Works include, emailing or calling clients on their tender clarifications, editing tender forms using Adobe Acrobat, taking meeting minutes, and filling up Excel sheet on suppliers. For editing tender form, the intern had to input vital information into a PDF document, such as signatures and corporate stamps, name filling, and so on.
